Drama Club
MISSION:- “To create a socially and morally acceptable person able to clearly articulate themselves in society, be able to appreciate and tolerate others around him and be an active member of his society”.
The Main Aim and Objective for the club:
“To create a platform for as many students to take great interest in the world of performing arts, entertainment and public speaking.” In addition, we encourage and guide students to gather the necessary skills in drama, arts and public speaking through drama training, workshops and performances.
Events that recently took place:
- A drama club trip to Braeside school on 9th June, 2011 to watch their annual school play, “the Government Inspector.” A total of 42 students and 2 accompanying teachers watched this production. The play was well received with positive criticism coming from some of the students who were able to put their drama skills and training to evaluate the performance.
- A presentation and slideshow by our club patron, Mr. Amar Desai who shared his one in a million experience of hiking around the world’s highest landmark on earth, Mt. Everest and summiting Island Peak, with tonnes of pictures!!
The yearly routine of the club:
- Annual school play-held annually in the 3rd term.
- Inter house Drama competition – held annually in the 3rd term.
- Activities during the Valentine’s Day programme – held annually in January Term.
- Speech Day – The club is involved with assisting with the smooth running of this function through the various allocated duties.
- Assists in set building, costumes & props design for our school plays and talent shows.
The Future:
- We are looking at staging 2 plays every year, instead of the usual 1. We have had a tradition of staging great musicals and are looking at creating a variety by looking at options of staging comedies, thrillers and other genres of drama too.
- Sound, lighting and set-building workshops for students and members of the staff on a termly basis.
- Script writing competitions.
- Introducing the concept of showing foreign films and documentaries to students on a monthly basis. This will greatly enhance visual learning and also give the students a breather from their normal classroom learning.
- Creating a database of upcoming actors and actresses for casting agencies. With the great demand of young talent for both stage and television, we wish to maximise on this and have as many of our students reaching greater heights in performing arts.
