Mountaineering Club
MISSION: “To provide the students with a non-competitive voluntary forum to explore their potential, interest and skills.”
The Club’s Goals and Objectives: To provide an opportunity for the students to develop their sense of adventure and a chance to appreciate the environment through a programme of outdoor activities. The club aims at instilling mountain and rock climbing skills.
N/B: The Club will not be restricted to climbing of mountains and hills but will also offer attractive camping opportunities to the members. The club also instills camping and teamwork spirit especially during the time of cooking in the jungle.
Membership: All students are eligible, provided one is physically healthy and enthusiastic about bush hiking. Excursions such as climbing Mr. Kenya will require appropriate clothing while one-day adventurous trips to low areas and hills may only require hiking shoes, a bottle of water and packed lunch. The Club will strive to undertake a one-day trip to places such as Mr. Longonot and rock climbing at Hells Gate during the term and camping trip / mountain climbing (Mt. Kenya / Mt. Kilimanjaro) at the end of 1st and 3rd Terms.
Whats required: Mountain climbing requires athletic ability and technical knowledge to maintain safety. Tents are the most common form of shelter used on the mountain. They may vary from simple tarps to much heavier designs intended to withstand harsh mountain conditions. Students are thus required to have personal tents.
