MIDDLE SCHOOL MODEL UNITED NATIONS (MSM-UN)

MISSION: “To provide middle school students with the opportunity to simulate UN sessions with their peers through becoming delegates who represent UN member states, observer states or non-governmental organizations.”

Objectives:

To participate in the annual Model UN conferences and, in doing so, to represent and promote our school.

To promote a better understanding of the global political environment in which we live, to our students.

To foster consensus building and negotiation with other delegations and hence develop tolerance and mutual understanding about various political issues.

To expose delegations to several concrete skills – building activities such as problem solving and negotiating, all of which are useful in both the academic and professional environments.

Preparation and Activities:

Delegates go through rigorous training on the UN General Assembly and committees’ procedures. Sessions are held mainly on Saturday and occasionally after school.

Conference Dates:

Annual conferences for MSMUN take place every January.

Requirements:

In order to establish a position, articulate and defend it, delegates must conduct a thorough research into their country’s background information such as foreign policy, GDP, population, political history and from sources such as encyclopedias, and the net among others.

During the conference, delegates are expected to dress in formal business outfit.  Participants are to pay non refundable registration fee which varies each year and provide two passport size photos.
