Presidents Award
MISSION: “To provide a challenging programme of practical, cultural and adventurous activities with a focus on the personal and social development of young people.”
The President’s Award scheme is a youth empowerment program. It is a member of the Duke of Edinburgh’s scheme for International Award for young people. The Award is an exciting personal challenge to young people between the ages of 14 and 25. It is a balanced, non-competitive programme of voluntary, leisure-time activities which encourages;-
- Personal discovery and self knowledge.
- Self-reliance and self-discipline.
- Perseverance and determination.
- Initiative, enthusiasm and creative vision.
- Community involvement and social responsibility.
What does P.A. involve? – There are three levels of Awards – Bronze, Silver and Gold. To gain an Award, all four section must be tackled for the specified minimum period time.
Service – Aim: to encourage a sense of responsibility to community through; community service projects; conservation work; voluntary service. i.e. cleaning of Hospitals. e.t.c.
Expedition – Aim: to cultivate a spirit of adventure and discovery; an understanding of the environment; and the importance of working service. i.e. cleaning of Hospitals.
Skills – Aim: to encourage the development of cultural, vocational or practical skills.
Physical recreation – Aim: to encourage improved performance and physical fitness.
To join P.A. – One must acquire a Record book to log Award achievements. Participants meet every Friday from 4.00 p.m. to 5.30 p.m. Our programme is outlined in the school calendar. For more information you can contact the Club Patron: Mr. M. Muriuki.
