INFORMATION AND COMMUNICATIONS TECHNOLGY (ICT)
This is one of the most popular subjects taught at the Academy and indeed the back bone of the school. It is not only a teaching department, but also a service one, making it one of the busiest in the academy. The teaching is divided into two levels:
Year 7 to 9 – Key Stage 3 and years 10 and 11 – Key stage 4
In Key stage 3, we cover topics ranging from the types of computers, hardware, software etc to the effects of ICT on society. In addition, every class has a double practical lesson per week where they are taught different ICT skills using a range of application software.
In key stage 4, students are prepared for their IGCSE examinations. They look at the topics covered in key stage 3 in more details in addition to new topics within the syllabus. The students also have practical lessons based on several application software.
Our students perform very well in ICT examinations in IGCSE. Not only once, have we produced top of the world students in the subjects.
The ICT department holds a computer exhibition once every year. Students from across the school are encouraged to come up with their own projects and do an exhibition. The exhibits are judged by external judges upon which the best 3 students are awarded certificates and trophies while the other participants are awarded certificates.
In the National Science congress, the school has been top in both the talk and exhibits category for the past three years. This shows how our students are creative and innovative.
