PHYSICAL EDUCATION EXAMINABLE
Physical Education is offered at Oshwal Academy Junior High under the International General Certificate of Secondary Education (IGCSE) syllabuses.
Physical Education falls into the Creative, Technical and Vocational of the International Certificate of Education Subjects
Physical Education in the IGCSE is in two sections:
- Terminal Examination – Theory paper at the end of year 11. Accounts for 40% of the final marks
- Coursework - Four practical activities and ability to analyse performance. Accounts for 60% of the total marks.
CONTENT.
The content of the theory paper is made up of three units:
- Factors affecting performance
- Health, Safety and Training
The course work is made up of seven categories of practical activities:
- Games
- Gymnastics
- Dance
- Athletics
- Outdoor and adventurous activities
- Swimming
- Combat Activities
Only four activities have to be chosen from a minimum of two of the above categories.
AIMS AND OBJECTIVES
There are three broad objectives in Physical Education. They are:
- Students should be able to demonstrate the ability to interrelate planning, performance and evaluation while undertaking the activities.
- Students should be able to demonstrate the ability to analyse and improve their own and other person’s performance.
- Students should be able to demonstrate knowledge and understanding of:
- Factors affecting performance
- Health and safety aspects in physical activity
- The reasons for participating in physical activity

METHODOLOGY OF TEACHING
Students select this subjects at the start of key sage 4 when they are at year 10. Assessment for objective 1 and 2 is done during the second term of year 11. Assessment for objective 3 is done during the exam period at the end of key stage 4
The teaching methodology is two fold as follows:
- Theory classes including use of smart board to meet objective assessment 1
- Practical activities in the respective sports to meet objective assessment 2 and 3
STAFFING.
The department of Physical Education at Oshwal Academy Junior High has 6 qualified graduate teachers. They are dedicated to meet the demands of this emerging popular subject at school.
ENROLLMENT
There are 9 students taking Physical Education in the academic year 2009 – 2011 while 10 students are taking this subject in the years 2010 – 2012.
